A Sign Of Our Failings?

Pregnant students in a Denver high school are asking for at least four weeks of maternity leave so they can heal, bond with their newborns and not be penalized with unexcused absences.
The request is unusual in Colorado's public schools, where districts tend to deal with pregnant students or new moms with specialized programs or individualized education plans.
Denver Public Schools has no districtwide policy, leaving it up to schools to work out plans for students to continue their education.

Denver has one of the highest teen-pregnancy rates in the state. Of every 1,000 girls ages 15 to 17, 54.5 will become pregnant in the city, compared with 24.3 throughout Colorado, according to state health statistics.

You can read more here.

Some questions:
-Do you think there is no districtwide policy b/c up until this time there has been no need for one?
-For 1 out of every 2 children per 1,000 that enter into the public school system in Denver, will become pregnant by the age of 17. What does that say about our parenting?
-Who is to blame for such promiscuity?
-How can this be changed?
-How should this issue be remedied?
-Should we just accept this trend or should we attempt to ebb the flow?

Yeeeiiikes! This tells me that their dads apparently don't own a shotgun.

I've really got nothing on this. I'm just flabbergasted at the numbers. 55 girls pregnant before 17. My best guess is that they aren't receiving any dialog from their parents regarding this crucial issue.

that is possible. I would venture to guess that they had shielded their eyes to this problem for several years and now they must act.

Terrible. It also speaks volumes to our churches because I would also guess that many of these girls are girls who profess themselves to be Christians!

-Who is to blame for such promiscuity?
Culture, TV, society. All good answers but I think the best answer is this...
The girl who got pregnant and the boy involved. The girls need to hold themselves accountable for how they dress and act. And the boys need to check their hormones at the door.

-How can this be changed?
Education, proper teaching in church. Less of the message of God loves you, but more of God's wrath awaits the unrepentant sinner. Let's put the holy fear of the Lord in these kids!!!!!
Seriously, they need to hear the whole gospel message, not just the good news.

-How should this issue be remedied?
kind of the same answer as above.

-Should we just accept this trend or should we attempt to ebb the flow?
we can ebb the flow if we would just get out of our churches and out of our homes and out in the streets where the kids are at. let's teach them what God says about it.

As a former Church Youth Director, preach on brother.

To Answer the question posed in the title, yes this is a sign of our failings. I like to look at the moral decay of our country the same way I look at any other issue that involves multiple people. We can't expect things to change unless we go out and try to change it. The best way to do that is to preach the gospel my friends.

Staggering.

And I think they should be allowed leave. It seems that it would allow them to do something that it seems their parents aren't doing. Spend time with their child.
