Testing The Reaction Of A White Cop

Sgt. Matthew Grimes was asked to give a presentation to a church audience on July 24 at Municipal Gardens, in the 1800 block of Lafayette Road.
During the presentation, an altercation broke out in the crowd, and Grimes intervened. The officer was thrown to the ground and drew his Taser, ready to stun one of the people involved, police said.
At that point, someone stepped in and told the officer that the incident had been concocted to test the reaction of the officer to the situation, police said. Grimes suffered severe back spasms after the incident and was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment.
James Harrington, pastor of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, said he set up the scenario to test a white officer's reaction to a fight between two black men.
"Their job is to protect and serve, and even though they have families and children, that they don't put any regard to their safety," Harrington said. "I don't think it was dangerous because it was in a controlled environment."
Harrington denied that the officer was injured.
"We are trying to do anything that we can to save the lives of our children," he said. "We have to have live demonstrations of violence carried on by professional actors who are trained to do what they do."

You can read the rest here.

Some questions:
-Do you think this helps to further race relations in America?
-If the cop was not hurt, what benefit would have come from this scenario?
-Do you find this to be a good idea?
-Should churches be involved in such things as this?
-What do you think the motive was behind this alleged staged incident?

Because She's White At An All Black School?

You can read on this here.

Some questions:
-Do you think her race plays a part in the issue?
-What is the issue with her writing a letter to President Obama?
-If you attend an all black school including Hampton University, would this offend you?
-What is legitimately offensive about her winning the pageant?

Close To Home: Skinheads Plan To Kill Obama

Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said Monday.
In all, the two men whom officials described as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people - 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.
The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, "shooting at him from the windows," the documents show.
"Both individuals stated they would dress in all-white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt," the court complaint states. "Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt."

You can read more here.

Some questions:
-If you had to guess is the stereotypical black culture what these men really hate or is it the person himself?
-What would bring a person to hate someone so much due to the color of their skin?
-Is it possible to separate color from culture?

Rev. Jesse Jackson Wants To Make Obama A Eunuch

“My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.”

Jackson was speaking to a fellow guest at the time about Obama’s speeches in black churches and his support for faith-based charities. Jackson added before going live, “I want to cut his nuts off.”
“I have great passion for this campaign and traveled across the country … arguing the case for the campaign,” Jackson said. “And this thing I said in a hot-mic statement that’s interpreted as a distraction, I offer apology for that. I don’t want harm or hurt to come to this campaign.”

You can read more here and here.

Some questions:
-Is an apology enough?
-Should the same standard he held for Don Imus be enforced concerning him?
-What is Jesse Jackson a reverend of?
-Why do you think Jesse Jackson felt "okay" saying this type of comment about another person?
-Are we all subject to sin nature and in need of forgiveness? If so how many times should we forgive?
-Is there a double standard at work here? Where is the outcry?

A Forward I Recieved

The below is an email forward that was sent to me.

... As you watch the flooding in the Midwest? Have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads.
There's no looting or yelling
'Where's Bush?',
'Where's FEMA?,
Where's my check?', or
'Why isn't the Gov't out here saving me and my farm?'

Likewise, I've also noticed there are no reports of any other country
coming to help or sending aid.

And this one---Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a 'vanilla' Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where are all of the gangs taking law into their own hands?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people (read liberals, progressives and other way out left wingers) declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

Where are the debit cards for Iowans?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Because these people are responsible and will take care of themselves . . . like the others need to learn to do. These are the Americans who understand that help begins at home. God bless them and let's help them. They are true Americans!

Shocking contrast, isn't it?!?!?!
Tell it like it is, pass this on!

I do not agree with the implication of this email nor do I see a need to draw dividing lines based on race, I do however find intriguing the heart of the issue brought up by the email.

Some questions:
-How should we respond to such emails?
-Why is race made to be a dividing line?
-Does scripture speak to race? In what ways?
-Why do you think this tragedy was/is being handled differently than the aftermath of hurrican Katrina?

Letter From A Birmingham Jail

While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other than such correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statements in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.
-Martin Luther King Jr.
You can read the rest here.

Some questions:
-How do you view King's contributions to the Civil Rights Movement?
-Have you ever read the letter linked to above? Do you find it inspiring?
-How do you celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day?
-If King was still alive today, do you think he would be pleased with the progress made thus far?
-What are your thoughts concerning his assessment of the "white" churches of the south?

Who Killed Jesus?

In a New York City Subway a fight broke out in which several Jews were assaulted for allegedly greeting eachother with "Happy Hanukkah".

Authorities say the victims, two men and two women, were on a southbound Q train at Canal Street in Lower Manhattan when they were approached by the gang of 10 at around 11:15 p.m. Friday.
They were allegedly beaten up by the group in an attack now being investigated as a bias crime, because one is accused of shouting, "Hanukkah is when the Jews killed Jesus."

After the beating, the driver of the train allegedly refused to stop and a Sunni Muslim stepped in to help the Jews and he too was assaulted.

You can read more and watch the video here.

Some questions:
-Why did Jesus die?
-Who killed Jesus?
-What do you think about this Muslim helping a Jew?
-What are your feelings about this incident?
-If these men claim to be Christians, do you think they acted according to scripture in "defending" the honor of Christ?
-Does scripture speak to issues such as this?

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, What Say You?

Five youths [black] were being charged today with misdemeanor mob assault in the weekend attack on a 13-year-old boy [white: Damin O'Rourke] in West Ocean View that was captured on video.
Two are 16 years old and the others are 13, 14 and 15, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman. He did not release their names, citing their ages. By the end of the day, he said, investigators will have secured petitions charging the youths as juveniles.

The news report states that it does not appear to be race related, but it cannot be ruled out at this time.

You can read more here.
You can see the beating here.

Some questions:
-Are incidents like this and Jena 6 treated equally amongst both blacks and whites?
-Is justice more important than skin color?
-What are the prejudices that play into how you view the two incidents?
-What do you think would be Jesse Jackson's or Al Sharpton's response to this beating? Should they even comment on it?
-Do you think things would be different if this boy was black? What about if the Jena 6 where white?

Go To Hell Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Hatemonger Mahmoud Ahmadinejad landed in a hornet's nest of outrage yesterday as Columbia University prepared to welcome him with open arms today and stuck by a dean's outrageous assertion that it would let Adolf Hitler speak, too.

You can read more here.
Some questions:
-Why would anyone want anyone to go to Hell? Is there a better response?
-Do you disagree with Columbia University? If so, if you follow that reasoning, where does it lead you?
-What would be some benefits (either directly or indirectly) of allowing Mahmoud to speak?

Acting Like He's White

[Jesse] Jackson sharply criticized presidential hopeful and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for “acting like he’s white” in what Jackson said has been a tepid response to six black juveniles’ arrest on attempted-murder charges in Jena, La. Jackson, who also lives in Illinois, endorsed Obama in March, according to The Associated Press.

You can read more here.

A question:
-What's that supposed to mean?
