Teach Them Well

A teacher in Hillsboro, Oregon is facing felony charges for none other than stealing a pupils coat and attempting to sell it on ebay. The day after the coat was stolen the mother went online to ebay to find a replacement and found her daughter's coat being sold by a teacher at her daughter's school.

In another recent incident a Pleasant Valley High School teacher by the name of Bruce Smith has chosen to subject pupils to pictures of dead, naked, dismembered women and discuss sexually charged scenarios ranging from copulating with a cheerleader to push up bras to losing his virginity. When parents complained to the school's administration, their identities were revealed to Mr. Smith and the allegations hold that this was to be used as some sort of scare tactic. According to reports, the teacher was told to contact them at home concerning this. This took place in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

More can be read here and here.

Some Questions:

-How does this affect your view of the school system?
-Are teachers given too much authority in schools?
-How do we as a society protect our children from people like this?
-What do you think a just punishment would be for Ms. Logan and Mr. Smith?

- Q1. I think it is hard to judge the school system these days. I don't think it is the same anywhere. I grew up in public school and had both good and bad experiences. As did my friends who grew up in private Christian school.
- Q3. Protecting our children...parents have it so hard. It scares me to think of sending my child to anyone...even Christian schools, you just don't know what can happen. While being a homeschool mom does not appeal to me in the least, I wonder if it is best to teach our kids from home until they are in their teens. It is so hard. This has reminded me to pray for parents!

I don't understand what Mr. Smith was trying to accomplish. It sounds as if he is a sicko who needs theology, therapy and an orange jump suit!
