A mother encouraged her two children to play the role of mentally retarded people. Why? For the money. The government pays money to help support those who are mentally retarded and they are allowed benefits in which others are not allowed to take part. These benefits vary by state. With that being said, this family has been playing the system since the son turned 8. The mother and the son both have pleaded guilty. Pete Costello, the son, has been ordered to pay back $59,226.00- the amount he has recieved since his 18th birthday (he is now 28). The daughter has yet to be found.
