Gossip in the Workplace

We all know that their is something just not right about gossip, but these ladies paid a consequence for their gossiping. They were fired from their positions for gossiping about their employer. They stated that the unfounded relationship between their employer and another staff was discussed only during their lunchbreak and nothing further was said. The four employees who were fired had 46 years between them working for the town administrator.

You can read more on this here.

Some questions:

-Do you think that gossip is a bad thing?
-What are your feelings on the firings of these women who were engaged in gossip?
-Do you think that these ladies participating in gossip on their lunchbreak was an "okay" place to discuss such matters?
-Do you think that someone could be fired for doing something while out at lunch and not on the clock?
-If you were their employer, do you think you would hire them back? What if you were facing legal action?
