Honor Killing: Does it have a place in today's world?

A 17-year-old girl has been stoned to death in Iraq because she loved a teenage boy of the wrong religion. More on the story here.

The 30 minutes of stoning can be viewed here via Real Player.

Some questions to think on:
-Does this speak highly of their view of their religion; that they would be willing to take a life of their own family member to uphold the honor of their beliefs?
-How does this type of "justice" fit into our world view? We have to deal with it.
-Why do we not value our beliefs as highly as they do theirs? Should we?
-What impact, if any, does this have on you?

I read a lot about 'honor crimes'. Many have been first hand accounts of friends and sisters who lost a loved one. "Burned Alive", by Suaud is written by a woman who survived when a male relative tried to burn her alive. I am outraged by what is happening to these women. I am still thinking about some of your questions, but right now I can say that I am uncomfortable saying that this "speaks highly" of their view of religion and I don't think it is any kind of justice.
