Some questions:
-Have we forgotten what Memorial Day is about?
-What did you do to pay homage to those who serve to protect you?
-Do you treat Memorial Day as just another day off or do you utilize it to show a Veteran your appreciation?

I like Memorial Day. My father was in the Air Force when I was growing up and I have several relatives in the military. One who is currently serving in the Middle East. I spent some time praying yesterday...thanking God for soilders from the past and present and asking His protection on those who are still fighting. I don't think we can ever do enough for these brave men and women. I love this country and always enjoy the holidays that celebrate our freedom. Let's have a big bash for the 4th of July!!!
I grew up an Air Force brat, too - hence my online nickname. I haven't forgotten about the meaning of the day, but like Christmas, I don't wait for that holiday to express it's sentiments. Any time I catch an old sailor wearing the hat for "his" ship, I generally strike up a short conversation and work in my gratitude for them and thier service. I don't take lightly the rising deathtoll of our soldiers, but I also don't take it and our freedom they fought for grantedly.
Sadly, under the blanket of freedom provided, I did what I normally do on days I don't work - homework. :( I did, however, watch a couple episodes of Band of Brothers.
misawa,
I too strike up a conversation with people in uniform. I was on a plane once with a Marine who was headed to Iraq, I felt a bit cheesy thanking him for his service, but he actually teared up as I told him I would pray for him. I so wish Americans would show constant appreciation to these men and women...regardless of how they feel about the war.
Isn't being an Air Force brat great!?
