Just Say No To Coffee Refills!

Jasmine Willis downed seven double espressos, while working at the familly owned The Sandwich Bar which sent her into a state of emotional swings that resulted in random laughing and random crying. Her father sent her home at which point she came down with a fever and had difficulty breathing before she was sent to the hospital for treatment. At the hospital it was confirmed that she had overdosed on caffeine.

After being allowed home from hospital she suffered side effects for days and now cannot face the sight of coffee.
She said: "I felt exhausted for days afterwards. I did not realise this could happen to you and I only hope other people learn from my mistake."

You can read more here.

Some questions:
-Does this influence your coffee drinking?
-Is caffeine good for your body?
-What benefits does coffee provide?

*Note: this is not a shot at Coffee Refills.

At first I was a bit offended when I read your title! Ha. This story does not convince me to stop drinking coffee. Espresso is stronger than coffee, plus, I think I have enough self control not to get drunk on caffeine. I think that the only benefits of it are the short term energy rushes.

Apparently one of the effects of caffeine is better blood flow, so it helps thinking to a point, and helps muscle performance short term. Of course, more is NOT better. And then there is the crash.

I have 1 coffee in the morning and usually a DP at lunch. Caffeine doesn't keep me awake at night, and sometimes I need a cup or can to get to sleep. Go figure.

My wife and I have lived in a virtually caffeine-free house since we've been married. We do keep some "loaded" things on hand, namely coffee and tea, but rarely have any ourselves. I have one cup of coffee in the mornings, and that's about it.

Ironic enough: I recently was in the throes of a sinus headache from a pretty nasty cold, and a doctor friend recommended that I take the meds with some caffeine - and it worked!

I think I lived on about a pot of Starbucks coffee a day when I was in college. I had lots of heart palpitations during that time, too, which yes--I think were caffiene induced. I am a coffee LOVER, so it has been a struggle for me to cut back since college. My solution is to drink half-caff since I want 2-3 cups in the morning. That way I am not getting all the caffiene in regular blend coffee.

I love coffee, but I have to remember to be temperate in all things. Especially something that CAN have negative effects, physically speaking.
This story is not enough to make me stop drinking coffee though(the return of Christ might be the only thing that ends my coffee drinking forever! Ha!). I don't drink espresso because I know it would give me heart palpitations again. So, I would definitely not drink seven in a row! That was just a stupid thing to do! Caffiene IS a stimulant, after all!

About a year and a half ago I stopped drinking soft drinks and never had a taste for coffee (I had to look up espresso b/c I did not know exactly what it is). The only thing I drink now that has caffeine in it is tea, sweet tea to be exact. The only time I ever utilized coffee was when I was with my grandfather. He would bring out the cookies that look like oreos but are vanilla and we would dip them in the coffee and eat them. That was okay and a good memory I have of my grandfather.
