Lady Sues Best Buy For $54 Million Due To PC Loss

Is your laptop worth $54 million? Raelyn Campbell of Washington, D.C., is suing Richfield-based Best Buy for that amount after it lost her laptop computer while it was in for repairs.

You can read more here.
Or you can visit her official blogspot on the ordeal here.

Some questions:
-Does her circumstance warrant $54 million in compensation?
-Is there ever a time when one should sue for an exuberant amount of money?
-If a company (or its employees) lie to you, does this entitle you to sue if "just" compensation is provided? (if it does, I need to sue Gateway before the statute of limitations goes into effect)
-Do you think this publicity hurts Raelyn Campbell more than it helps her case or do you think it brings to light practices employed by big chain retail stores?

I glanced over her blog and the article. It sounds like she has been compensated for what happened. They paid her the full price of the laptop and gave her a $500 gift card. I am sure that it was a frustrating situation and I know that you cannot pay to replaced lost data but come one…$54 million. She said on her blog that she did not expect to get this amount she was just doing it to bring attention to her case. I think that there are plenty of other good causes that she could be bringing attention to other than bad customer service.

I heard that she was also supposed to sign a non-disclosure statement about her computer getting lost.
Is that true?

I agree with this statement Kellye. The company has addressed the situation and has taken care of it. If she still feels wronged, she should vote with her wallet and stop doing business there. I think what we have here is pride run amock, in the "how dare they do this to ME!" vain.
