I ran across this free software called Sandboxie. I thought I would share it here. It is along the lines of antivirus, ad blocking, spyware protection utilities except that it tackles the issue from a whole new perspective. What it does is keep anything that could/would be a potential virus or ads or spyware from ever reaching your system per se. What it does is set up a transient place of storage. If you download something or get infected with a virus, you simply empty out your sandbox and all is well. It never touches your system or system settings as it never leaves the sandbox. Neat concept and neat idea. I thought some might benefit from it. Give it a look. You can read more about it and download it here.
Some questions:
-What do you currently use to protect your system from unwanted effects?-Do you think this program might aide you in keeping your system running smooth?
In answer to your first question, I run Linux. That neuters a fair majority of the spyware and adware.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when I must use a Winblows PC, I run AVG (free edition), Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D.
What Linux flavor are you using? I would have moved over to Linux a long time ago except certain programs I use to bring in income are not ported for Linux (and rely on the .NET infrastructure).
ReplyDeleteI don't use any sort of protection when it comes to my editing pc as I have never had issues with viruses, spyware, ads, etc. as I don't install things or visit websites where I could get those things (as it is my editing system and needs to remain stable).

I'm using Ubuntu, though I'm contemplating a switch to Kubuntu - different interface, same kernel.
ReplyDeleteDon't switch to Kubuntu just yet; give the new Ubuntu release a try.
ReplyDeleteRead about it here.
